The three photos below show how much a tortoise will lean and reach into the nest hole in order to make it as deep as possible. She will reach as far as possible with one leg and then as far as possible with the other. As you can see she also lifts the front of her body up to give her that extra reach. When she cannot possible make it any deeper she will begin to lay her eggs.
